Malta IIP Application
The Malta IIP application begins with the main applicant acquiring a place in Malta to reside in. This could be temporary rented accommodation. Once the main applicant has acquired an address in Malta, the main applicant under the conditions of the Malta Individual Investor Programme application process must file, in person, an application for a residence permit in Malta.
It is during this period of residency that the main applicant can complete and submit the Malta Individual Investor Programme Application for naturalisation as a citizen of Malta. This should be accompanied by applications for any dependants. Identity Malta will perform initial checks for completeness and issue an acknowledgement.
Identity Malta will subsequently process the Malta Individual Investor Programme Application/s and, if accepted, issue a letter of approval in principle together with an invoice for (the balance of) the contribution to the National Development and Social Fund. The balance must be settled within 25 days from the date of the letter of approval in principle.
Malta Citizenship – timeframe
Within 4 months from the date of the letter of approval in principle, the Main Applicant as per the conditions of the Malta Individual Investor Programme must prove that he has contractual undertakings to fulfil the property requirement. He/she would also have to provide evidence that the local investment requirement has been satisfied and that a valid health insurance policy providing cover for all applicants on the application has been taken out.
The certificate/s of naturalisation will, if all relevant requirements have been satisfied, be issued 12 months after the date on the residence permit. Maltese passport/s can subsequently be issued to complete the application process.
